'In Control' Poster: Designs and Draft One

I decided to show to process of designing the first draft of the poster for my short film, 'In Control'.

Sketch One

This was the original sketch I made for the poster. The sketch includes reviews from magazines, a tagline and institution logo's. Furthermore, it includes credits and the title with the main feature of the poster being the shake. I decided after designing this that the shake was too small and did not fill enough of the composition, and therefore in my mock up I made it much bigger.

Mock-Up

The mock up of my poster was much less successful as it was not my own photograph, hence it did not match the colour scheme I was aiming for and the positioning of the shake was wrong. Further more, there is a lot of empty space that hasn't been used, and it looks very unprofessional.

Sketch Two

Following my mock-up, I decided to make another design for the poster that I believed would be more successful. I decided to put the film's title over the shakes label and not include magazine reviews in order to focus the attention on the main features of the poster.

This is the first draft of my poster for 'In Control'.

I decided to use a nutritional shake as the main feature of the poster as I wanted it to be more abstract. I used the codes and conventions of a film poster, ensuring I used the appropriate credits at the bottom in addition to the traditional composition. I think that my colour palette is successful as it all ties into the each other and each section of font is very clear. I also used institution logo's and kept the tagline of the film very generalised in order to only hint at the plot/narrative of the film rather than throwing it in the audience's face.
